Attendance Champions

Promise Stipend - Pilot Attendance Champions Program

MVCDC Bus Drivers, Bus Monitors and Family Support Specialists
Preschool Promise, Inc. recognizes the important role Family Support Specialists (FSS) Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors play in ensuring children receive a high quality preschool education.
Preschool Promise is asking the designated MVCDC employees to implement values and programs, such as Conscious Discipline, into their work environment and to promise to stay in their same position for the full school year. We know it is critical for our preschool students and their families to have continuity and connection with persons who are an integral part of their preschool routine.
For this reason, Preschool Promise is offering a Promise Stipend in the amount of $500 for MVCDC FSS, Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors who fulfill the following promises. This is a voluntary program and participants must apply by September 30, 2019 to be eligible . The Promise Stipend program is offered in addition to stipends offered for participation in focus groups and workshops.

Participants Promise to:

Values Promise
  • Be committed to improving social emotional practices in your interactions with students and families, incorporating Conscious Discipline structures and language, to ensure all children have a healthy environment to feel safe and connected. 

Accountability Process:  MOU/Application signed by the individual at the beginning of the year

Employment Promise

  • Be employed from August 5, 2019 through May 30, 2020 (or the last day of school, whichever comes first) at a Preschool Promise MVCDC site

Accountability Process: Employer will communicate to Preschool Promise if the individual has met the commitment

Attendance Promise

  • Maintain cumulative attendance rate of 90% from August 5, 2019-May 30, 2020 (exceptions will not be made for excused or unexcused absences or sick leave) 
  • Service days taken are not figured into the cumulative attendance rate requirement 

Accountability Process: Employer will communicate to Preschool Promise if the individual has met the commitment

Program Promise - Bus Drivers & Bus Monitors

  • Promote social emotional practices on your bus by implementing suggested bus driver plan, Brain Smart Starts (greetings, school bus family, breathing, exposure to brain smart start music) 
  • Support star attendance by acknowledge their absence, welcome back ritual

Accountability Process: Employer will communicate to Preschool Promise if the individual has met the commitment 

Program Promise - Family Support Specialists

  • Support Star Attendance by ensuring eligible students are signed up for the program and contacting parents when students are absent from school
  • Complete attendance plans for student
  • Promote social emotional practices in interactions with students and their family
  • Promote reading Book of the Month at home with student 

Accountability Process: Employer will communicate to Preschool Promise if the individual has met the commitment

Survey Promise

  • Complete surveys on your engagement in the practices above at monthly meetings 


To receive a stipend from Preschool Promise, please enroll in the program by submitting the following by Septmeber 1, 2019:
  1. A complete Promise MVCDC Bus Driver Application
  2. A completed W-9 

Payment Schedule

  1. To pay $25 per meeting attended. 1st attendance stipend will be paid by 1/31/2019 for meetings attended August-January (max amount is $125); 2nd attendance stipend will be paid by 6/30/2019 for meetings attended February-June (max amount is $125)
  2. A bonus of $250 is awarded if your attendance exceeds 90% for the school year. The bonus check will be mailed by June 30, 2020 to the participant’s home address as listed on the application. It is the participant’s responsibility to update the address with Preschool Promise if there are any changes during the school year.
  3. Ongoing support and assistance on as needed basis.
As part of the Promise Stipend application, the participant must acknowledge that Preschool Promise will send a 1099-MISC at the end of the year if more than $600 is paid to the individual; it is the individual’s responsibility to claim this as income on taxes.

Legal Agreement

By joining this program, you agree that your employer may release information to Preschool Promise, Inc., such as, but not limited to: attendance records, employment status by dates, and compliance with professional development such as the video recordings of reading books in the classroom. Preschool Promise will keep this information confidential and it will be used for determining status for the Pilot stipend and for research to improve Preschool Promise in the future.
