Dayton is considered a book desert, areas where residents, particularly children, have limited access to books and literacy resources. To help bridge this gap, Preschool Promise services and regularly fills 25 Little Free Libraries throughout the community, ensuring that children can discover and enjoy books at no cost. These libraries serve as a vital resource, particularly in neighborhoods where books are scarce, helping to nurture literacy skills and a lifelong love of learning. The impact of these Little Free Libraries extends beyond just providing books—they create opportunities for families to engage in shared reading, they spark curiosity, and they build early literacy skills. When children have books in their hands from a young age, they develop stronger vocabularies, they have better comprehension skills, and they have more confidence. By making books easily accessible, these libraries help ensure that all children, regardless of background, have the opportunity to thrive. If you are interested in sponsoring a Little Free Library, reach out to invest@preschoolpromise.org.
