Bridging the Gap professional development is an inspiring and thought-provoking training led by Pastor Palmer Jason, Director of Good Shepherd Academy, and Trey Clements, Professor of Early Education at Sinclair College.

Returning for their fifth year of offering this popular PLC, the pair share a belief that every child deserves the opportunity to experience a great childhood—and for many, school is the place where that happens.

Palmer Jason’s “why” stems from his conviction that educators play a vital role in shaping those joyful and equitable childhood experiences. Trey Clements shared that his motivation comes from a lifelong commitment to education, emphasizing that “education has never been more important.” He explained that their work centers specifically on transforming Preschool experiences for Black boys, ensuring they receive the quality of education to which they are entitled.

Participating teachers will be encouraged to look more deeply into classroom dynamics, recognizing patterns or barriers that might otherwise go unseen.

Their first training included a data walk, where participants explored how Black boys are performing across various standards compared to their Black girl peers and white counterparts. This data-driven reflection invited open discussion and insight into how teaching practices, expectations, and classroom culture can be reimagined to better support every child’s success.

Bridging the Gap is more than professional development—it’s a movement toward understanding, empathy, and action that strengthens learning environments for all children.
