A Library on Every Corner: Bringing the Magic of Reading Home
With half of the Dayton area’s Little Free Libraries managed by Preschool Promise, we are making sure high-quality books are always within reach. Plus, meet the local author helping our children see the 'fascinating amazingness' of diversity.

Literacy is the cornerstone of Kindergarten readiness, and Preschool Promise is happy to promote the Dayton Metro Library as a key resource for families to access books. In addition to the main branches, Preschool Promise wants to make high-quality books accessible in day-to-day life in the neighborhood. Our partnership with Omega CDC has allowed us to add Little Free Libraries across Northwest Dayton. These libraries are a true community effort; we stock them using high-quality books and are always gratefully accepting new donations to keep these neighborhood hubs vibrant and full. We are looking for organizations to “host” these sites. If you are interested in learning more about our Little Free Library program or how you can help to support one, visit our website.
Beyond physical libraries, we reach children in their homes through our Preschool Promise Book-of- the-Month program. We highlight local authors and carefully curate titles that ensure children see themselves in the pages they read. Our February selection, Black Is, by Sinclair Community College professor Mia Morton Hubbard, is a perfect example. Hubbard’s work emphasizes self-acceptance and the "fascinating amazingness of diversity." By providing these "windows" into different worlds and "mirrors" of our own community, we ensure that the joy of reading is never more than a few blocks, or a few pages, away.
