The first Scholars Recognition Banquet, honoring 46 Scholars who completed their degrees and/or accreditations in 2024 and 2025, was held in early June. Graduates brought loved ones and enjoyed dinner and live music from the Ed Brookshire Band as they congratulated each other on their achievements.

Dr. Tennille Love, Manager of Scholars and Equity Programs, congratulated the graduates on the tenacity and grit required to complete their studies while working full-time in Preschool Promise provider classrooms and often raising their own young families. She introduced two graduates, Alaa Elwalidi and Lusonia Garrison. Ms. Elwalidi thanked Preschool Promise for the financial support, guidance and care as she achieved her degree and has made a commitment to continue her academic journey. Ms. Garrison acknowledged her journey has taken time, strength and determination with many stops and starts in her 30 years in Early Childhood Education. The work is a calling; it’s her why. She looks forward to completing her master's next.

Keynote Speaker Stacey Thompson Speare-Hardy, Senior Vice President & Senior Manager of Corporate

Responsibility and Community Engagement for KeyBank, spoke to the importance of her teachers and how they made her feel “seen, safe and capable.” She reminded the teachers that they are inspiring the students of today by seeing them, honoring their culture, and making space for their voice, a firm foundation on which they will build their lives.

The graduates joined Robyn Lightcap and Dr. Love on stage for a tossing of their mortar boards in a final celebration of their achievement. You can see more photos and information on our Scholars page.
