Did you know? Research demonstrates that young children who are read to regularly have an advantage when learning to read for themselves. Reading together builds closeness and early literacy skills, which are the foundations for school success. Reading 1,000 books isn't as hard as it might sound.
1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a reading program for children to help build their literacy skills and love of reading. The Ready to Read team has partnered with our friends at Dayton Metro Library to get families set up on the course for successful reading.
What books count for the program?
Reading a few books before bedtime, books read at the library and Preschool, listening to audiobooks or Dial-a-Story, even reading that same favorite book over and over all count, and participants will reach milestones before they know it! 1000 books seems like a lot but when you break it down, it's a very achievable goal. It's all about small steps adding up to big benefits.
How can families join the 1000 Books program?
Sign up at https://www.DaytonMetroLibrary.org/1000Books through the Beanstack app, or at any of Dayton Metro Library's 17 locations. When registering, families should select "Preschool Promise partner site" as their school.
