February is Black History Month, a time to reflect on the leadership, advocacy, and enduring contributions of Black Americans. As children’s advocate Marian Wright Edelman reminds us, “The question is not whether we can afford to invest in every child; it is whether we can afford not to.” Caring for and investing in young children, particularly those historically underserved, is foundational to a more just and thriving future.
We chose, "Mae Among the Stars," a children's picture book inspired by the life of Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to travel to space, as teacher giveaway book. We visited classrooms where teachers did art projects, sang songs and talked about important black inventors. We look forward to highlighting these stories on our social media channels. Follow us to see our creative teachers and students.
