Transforming Preschool for Black Boys

Transforming Preschool for Black boys

Data shows that, compared to their peers, Black boys are at the bottom of nearly every academic and social-emotional achievement measure. These boys do not lack ability or talent. Implicit bias, low expectations, discriminatory policies and practices, and lack of Black teachers and role models combine to limit Black boys’ opportunities to succeed. Preschool is where young children get their first impressions of formal education. We need to use this time to inspire their curiosity and ignite a love of learning!

Read below about how Preschool Promise is working with Black male leaders in our community to challenge inequities in the early childhood education system.

Black Boys Recommendations

Report Request

The Committee to Transform Preschool for Black Boys worked cohesively for a year to make recommendations to improve the educational experience for young Black boys and their families. They heard from parents, Preschool teachers, and administrators who were grappling with how to better serve children of color.

Based on these conversations, we created actionable recommendations to help transform Black boys’ experiences in early learning.
